The adult butterflies of this species are dark brown, with the hind wings fading to white at the edges. The undersides are similar but have bluish spots under each wing. The wingspan is about 6 cms.

Various races of this species occur in

  • Christmas Island,
  • Indonesia,
  • New Guinea, and
  • the north west of Western Australia.
