This Caterpillar is brown with pale bands between segments, and a mottled brown head. It lives in a nest of dead leaves held together with silk on its food plant. It was found on:

  • Camphor Laurel ( Cinnamomum camphora, LAURACEAE ).

    It has been found in Sydney and in Byron Bay, and grows to a length of about 2 cms.

    The adult moth is grey and has a dark mark near the tip of each fore wing. It has a wing span of about 2 cms.

    The species could not be identified properly. The sub-family EPIPASCHINAE contains 80 species in Australia in the genera:

  • Araeopaschia,
  • Astrapomentis,
  • Austropaschia,
  • Axiocrita,
  • Catamola,
  • Doddiana,
  • Lacalma,
  • Mimaglossa,
  • Nyctereutica,
  • Odontopaschia,
  • Orthaga,
  • Poliopaschia,
  • Pseudocera,
  • Salma,
  • Stericta,
  • Termioptycha, and
  • Titanoceros.
    The species illustrated here probably belongs to one of these.
