This Caterpillar was found on :

  • Camphor Laurel ( Cinnamomum camphora, LAURACEAE ).

    It grew to length of about 2 cms.

    The moth was fawn with speckled fore wings and plain hind wings. It had a wing span of about 2 cms.

    The specimen was found at Byron Bay, near the most easterly point of Australia.

    The species could not be identified properly. The sub-family EPIPASCHINAE contains 80 species in Australia in the genera:

  • Araeopaschia,
  • Astrapomentis,
  • Austropaschia,
  • Axiocrita,
  • Catamola,
  • Doddiana,
  • Lacalma,
  • Mimaglossa,
  • Nyctereutica,
  • Odontopaschia,
  • Orthaga,
  • Poliopaschia,
  • Pseudocera,
  • Salma,
  • Stericta,
  • Termioptycha, and
  • Titanoceros.
    The species illustrated here probably belongs to one of these.
