The Caterpillars of this family are generally stem borers. The adults have wings with no scales, so that the wings are mainly clear, except for the veins and pigmented patches.
The 19 named species of SESIIDAE found in Australia are:
Ichneumenoptera chrysophanes
: Clearwing Persimmon Borer
Pyropteron doryliformis
: Dock Moth
Synanthedon tipuliformis : Currant Borer
